Older computers did not have it, now de-crapify!

Hi malware fighters,

A lot of machines to-day come with a lot of ready installed programs, tools etc. that you may not want.
Yes, it’s a sad state of affairs when you buy a new computer these days and it comes pre-loaded with a ton of garbage software that brings your new machine to a crawl.
There is now a program to get rid of the crap that comes ready installed on XP and Vista:

Who has cleansed his new computer of additional crap, and do we think this is advisable?
Are there other proggies to do the cleansing?

polonus

Thank you for the link polonus. It’ll come in useful at one point in the future.

Confused Computer User

ps. Should I refer to you as polonus or Damian.

I don’t use a program and just clean up manually.

Some entries are harder to get rid of. I take it this does a better job than the manual un-install.

Dell gives you the option to order your computer without any crapp installed.
That’s how I received my laptop from them last year.

Here’s another one.

Last time I tried Ubuntu it destroyed my XP Home system ::slight_smile:

I’m not into Masochism as much as you are into Sadism.

What happened? You overwrote the Windows partition, or Ubuntu tried to resize the Windows partition and it went wrong?

I don’t remember now as it was about a year ago on an old PIII.

What I remember was that Ubuntu worked OK from a CD I burned then I asked it to install to the hard drive then it would boot but I could not get to WinME.

I had to take it to a PC store to get it fixed as I could not get the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy adapter to be recognized after removing Ubuntu then FORMATed the hard drive and re-installed WinME as I could not find the driver for the sound card so I had to buy a copy of XP Home.

Its all water under the bridge now as the old PIII died and that would be the only system I would offer as a sacrifice to the Linux Gods.

Since I build my own computers, they do not come with all that crap pre-installed.

I have known a few people who made the mistake of buying computers through BlueHippo, TronixCountry, PeoplePC, etc. So, it is nice that there are programs to get rid of the crap installed on name-brand computers as well as through the above mentioned sources.
