hi all i installed this on my friends pc remotely now it filled her virus chest up with exe’s like TIME.EXE this that cant remember them all says swiss or something trojans but there was 80 of them? ex’es so delted all them out but in system there where 3 i left called winsock .dll etc… not sure why there in the virus chest… she had no AV so maybe explains why all the exe’s geeeeeeez ! Hope it didnt qauratine anything needed cuz i dleted em all out cuz it was full thanks :-\

When items are quarantined (put in chest) they’re stored there in such a way that they can’t harm your computer (made inoperable temporarily). There’s no hurry to delete anything in the chest. Once you’ve run the computer for a couple of weeks without any problems THEN you can delete them. On the other hand, if you find the computer not operating correctly, you can restore a program from the chest. That’s why the chest is there… a temporary measure to isolate suspected items.

I also hope for your sake there wasn’t anything needed that you deleted. ???

Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, they can’t do any harm there. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a week or two. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

woops i know ekkkkkkkk her pc starts ok phewwwwwwwwww! so all them exe’s musta been badies 80 of em lol she had no Av for a yr??? Hymmmmm silly move but she luvs avast now too :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it too much to think that she also didn’t have a firewall, this is an essential element of her security. Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential. Xp’s firewall doesn’t have this protection.

If you/she haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it.

  2. Spybot Search and Destroy
  3. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
