On a full scan Avast! is marking locked files as a threat.

Locked files such as ones being backup by Crashplan or open such as outlook.pst are being label as a threat and avast wants to move them to the virus chest. Is this happening to anyone else? I don’t see an option to change the behavior.

Can you post a screenshot ? Are they labbeled as THREAT ? Or Avast just cannot analyse them maybe ?

I will make a screen shot of the next run results. Without looking again they were labeled a threat and Avast wanted to move them to the chest.

What scan is detecting this ?

If you can use the Attachments and other options to post a screenshot (as requested), it could help us to help you.

Don’t move the .pst file to the chest as that contains your emails. It may be that one of the emails in the .pst file is infected, but avast may be unable to extract that from the .pst without damaging it. It may be easier to try and identify and manually remove the infected email.

But more information is needed.

I was wrong they are not labeled a threat, but Avast wants to move them to chest. Scan for screen shot was from explorer right click menu. I know I don’t want to move the files. So my question still is how to I get Avast from wanting to move the files it can’t read?

That is a default action ‘Move to chest’ (to prevent accidental deletion of detected files), you will notice that the Apply button will be Greyed out as there are no actions to be taken for these files and the Action column is also blank (though I can’t see all of the column) for these files.

You are right the action column is blank. The apply may be grayed out but I can’t really tell that. Thanks for your help.
I still feel files avast doesn’t know about shouldn’t be listed with files that require action. I have seen in some programs (I can’t remember which) where there were multiple lists with some items for repair, some for move and some with no action.

The Action column remains blank for files that can’t be scanned. Even if there were detections that actions could be assigned to or would display the default Move to chest option, when the Apply button is pressed the action will only be applied tio infected files.
