Hi!
I accidentally turned off my on-access protection and now I can’t turn it back on. I click on the ‘Start on-access’ protection in the menu and nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

Nope - that’s the first thing I tried!
Try this few step Right click avast tray icon>On-Access Protection Control see if this is active. Download the picture below. If this doesn’t work try repairing it by going here Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>(Look for avast)>Click Change/Remove>Scroll down until the end>Click Repair>Click next
