Hi:
I am trying to find out what “On-Access Protection” is?
Also, how do I respond to the pop-up that this protection arouses?
Thanks.

Depending on the file type, before a file is accessed (opened, executed, modified, etc.) it is scanned by the on-access scanner/s of avast.
If I read this right the best course of action would have been not to enable it to start with.
Open the Standard Shield > Customize > Advanced - ‘Show detailed info on performed actions’ this option is off by default, so it would appear you have been tweaking avast without knowing the effect it will have. This function is also on the Web Shield and Internet Mail providers so you should also check those.
Thanks DavidR for your reply.
Should I also “Stop On-Access Protection” which shows up when I right-click on the rotating “a” ball?
Thanks.
No, you’ll disable your antivirus and will be unprotected.
You can disable the ‘a’ rotation, but keep the antivirus on.
You’re welcome.
As Tech mentions, no leave it enabled that is the essential part of a resident (on-access) anti-virus, all you want to do is get rid of the message and not the scan.
thanks guys.

No problem, glad I could help.
