Just updated to v.731, on-access scanning doesn’t work. IE, Firefox, Outlook Express can’t get out to the web. No firewall software installed, Win2k on AMD box. Disabling on-access protection allows these applications to work again. Tried repair, didn’t fix the problem. Any ideas? ???
What is your firewall?
Ensure that it allows access fot ashWebSv.exe (Web Shield).
Into the Windows firewall settings, the following programs should be allowed to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashWebSv.exe (avast! Web Scanner)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashMaiSv.exe (avast! e-Mail Scanner Service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\avast.setup (avast! Update executable)
Don’t need rights to connect:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
Do you have any other antivirus in this computer?
Thanks for the responses!
No firewall is running on the machine, I am using the firewall on my router. It allows any outgoing connections but will block incoming requests on unopened ports - IP/port based only.
No other virus software on the machine.
Problem resolved - my mistake about the firewall. Sygate personal firewall had been running in the background, set to ‘allow all’… but for some reason it didn’t like the latest updates. Thanks ;D
Methinks Tech and DavidR have mental insights which are way beyond my league.
Well done guys!
No mental insight, I just couldn’t see how it could be being blocked without having a firewall. Some hardware firewalls also have software backup for outbound protection there just had to be something blocking it, if when the web shield is disabled everything works.
