On-Access Scanner Not Starting - Windows 98

I installed Avast on a friend’s Windows 98 computer today. Avast on-access scanner will not start. There is an AAVM initialization error and an Errr in aswChestS; chestStart error 1899. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

I started having the same issue. AVAST has never had a problem. Suddenly this morning “On-Access Scanner” will not start. I tried searching for updates and rebooted several times. The memory scan also does not initiate when the virus scan starts. I receive a slightly different initialization error message:

AavmStart:avworkInitialize failed, 0000A438

Have (or did) your friend another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did they get rid of it ?

FYI; concerned that I too might have the same problem I have just tried mine on a 98SE computer and had no problems with the on -demand scan access :slight_smile:
