one more URL Mal infection

hi,
am new to this forum and am starting straight away with a problem…

Same as few others, I caught an infection called “URL:Mal” - must have happened yesterday, Jan 10 around 11:00 am CET.
It seems to sit on Firefox (do not use IE much), whenever I open a url or move between open Firefox windows, Avast pops up and warns:

Object: http://sql3.true-secure.com/?id
Infection: URL:mal (also has been URL:Mal4)
Process: C:\Program File(X86)Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

My Avast Avast Endpoint Protection Client did not manage to remove the threat.
Both Windows 7 and Avast are fully up to date.

Am attaching Adw, OTL, MBAM and Avast Antiroot Kit scans. None of the progs found any issue, so I am obviously concerned.
The alert keeps on popping up any time I use Fireforx.

Hope that is sufficient to determine how to proceed further.
Many thanks in advance for advice and help!

Let me know if this stops the alerts

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL

thanks, tried it, but seems to have failed:
ran OTL as instructed, soon as I hit the Fix button, Windows bluescreened, kept on dumping physical memory. Restarted Windows, took quite long to start.
The desktop is showing all icons plus a few hidden ones, such as two desktop.ini and a Thumbs.db icon.
The infection warning persist, still pops up.

OK big boy time

Download and Install Combofix

Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here

[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_disclaimer_ENG.png

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png

[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

  1. Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
  2. Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
  3. If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.

Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now

started ComboFix as instructed and it is now stuck at stage 48.
Shall I wait or stop it?

Stop it, then reboot to safemode and run it from there

ok, ComboFix had recovered and ran thru the next stages without further delay.
The machine seems to run smoothly, no more alerts from Avast.
Am attaching the log file.
Anything I need to do now? Clean anything off the machine?

no, was wrong, Avast just started throwing the alerts at me again.
Means, the stuff is still sitting on the machine…

This was all bundled with the Irfanview that you downloaded

  1. Close any open browsers.

  2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Folder:: c:\program files (x86)\Web Optimizer c:\users\NvT\AppData\Roaming\S4 c:\users\NvT\AppData\Local\Mobogenie c:\program files (x86)\Mobogenie c:\users\NvT\AppData\Local\cache c:\users\wangzhisong c:\programdata\Freemake

Driver::
Freemake Improver

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it will produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.

ran ComboFix as instructed, log is attached.
The infection warning is still coming up, unchanged.

That weboptimiser does not want to go …

hi, no, am not synching Firefox.
Will run the scan again, soon as I’m home again.
Thx for your ongoing efforts!

now, have run AdwareCleaner earlier this morning (was more a kind of “let’s try it again” action) and it came up with a list of infected files, directories - I let it fix these.
There are no more warnings, seems the malware has been killed.

Now, I have got several directories on C:\ , such as AdwCleaner, Qoobox and _OTL . May I delete these now that the machine is clean again?

And yes, many thanks for your efforts and time! Much appreciated!

I can remove those cleanly for you once you are happy that the computer is behaving itself. Just let me know

yes, pls help to remove the stuff.

In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so…The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and select Uninstall

Delete AswMBR from the desktop

Remove ComboFix
[*]Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
[*]In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the “x” and “/”)
then click OK

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee362/Essexboy3/Misc%20screen%20shots/CF_Uninstall-1.jpg

[]Follow the prompts on the screen
[
]A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73555776/CryptoPrevent.JPG

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
