Online AV scanner in Firefox and Flock browser - try this beta

Hi you malware fighters,

Everybody likes a second opinion once in a while, and sometimes wants an additional scan with one of the many compatible online scanners, which work only if you install them with an ActiveX in IE. Now F-Secure has developed a first beta that functions inside Mozilla browsers. Like to try this out, go here:http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/support/home-office/beta-programs/ols/index.html

Well Housecall is supposed to work using JAVA also so it too doesn’t need activeX (read IE) to be able to run.

Let’s try
Thanks Polonus… Finally an on-line Firefox compatible.

About F-Secure Online Scanner

F-Secure Online Virus Scanner is a free service. You can use it to find out if your computer is infected, and disinfect your computer if needed. The product will automatically download the necessary components and virus definition databases as it is started. The product supports detection and disinfection for viruses, trojans, worms, spyware and rootkits.

The size of the download package is about 45 MB incl. databases.

I’m on 256 kbps DSL, so I’ll pass. Wanna give it a try, David? ;D

Nah, I haven’t got a spare afternoon to download it on dial-up.

I shudder to think what a full installation would be like of this is just the components required to do an on-line scan ::slight_smile:

I think the engine and the virus database can’t be, nowadays, less than that… avast 5, for instance, will have 100Mb or more.

Not on the download it won’t, as I asked specifically would the avast 5 download be much bigger than the 30MB it is already and I was told it wouldn’t be. The difference in avast 5 is the signatures will be unpacked on installation (taking much more HDD space, which wasn’t concerned with) so they don’t have to constantly be unpacked.
