I just figured I’d post about this because well… I saw something that I thought was disturbing.
hxxp://www.onlinekey.net/ I went there & Avast’s shields didn’t alert me to anything. NoScript was running & so was Finjan… Yet, the prices are absolutely bogus, aren’t they?!
You didn’t get an alert because the website itself isn’t dangerous.
Purchasing anything from there however is neither legal or ethical.
It may also be dangerous.
There also aren’t any guarantees how long you would be able to use a key purchased illegally
would allow you to run the program or OS before the manufacturer blocks your access.
You said it… I was really in awe of that one because when I scroogled it, it was everywhere. There are even sites with slightly different names but that look the same. It’s organized… (Some thought clearly went into that one…) :o
I am so glad I don’t have to resort to things of that sort. (I’ll consider myself lucky.) I told some of my friends about it, & they were messed up when they saw it, too, but they all said that they thought it was fake.
Thanks for reporting that YoKenny! I really must set MBAM to resident now for sure! (I already paid for it but just don’t run it as resident; I am convinced to do so now.)
We Canadians don’t just sit in front of the TV watching hockey, drinking beer and eating eggs and back bacon like Bob and Doug McKenzie: Bob And Doug McKenzie 12 Days Of Christmas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACApP94ei14
We do like to vacation in the Virgin Island though to escape the Winter Blahs.
~LOL~ I now have MBAM’s resident protection on & it’s just as you said YoKenny, it certainly does block that site! At 1st, it let me go there still, but the definitions needed updating.
MBAM hasn’t detected hxxp://onlinekey.org/ , though… Doesn’t it look the same as the .net site it blocked?! :o
Edit: I used OpenDNS to block the variants I found. Yeah!
The other thing I found is that Avast can be used to block sites, if I remember correctly. Also, that can be done with a router. OpenDNS is not exactly necessary.
