Hi malware forums,
Online virusscanners can be a handy tool for users that like a second opinion on a positive scan or want a total scan of their O.S., it also helps miscreants testing out their creations, as a Kaspersky Lab analyst puts it. Online meta scanners like VirusTotal and VirusScan forward all suspicious files that certain av-vendors do not detect in a scan, so adequate protection against it can be developed.
According to paranoid malcreants all files are being forwarded to av-vendors, even if they told they do not want to receive them. That is why cybercriminals developed their own online scanners. Like the one on the website AvCheck.ru that tries out files at 15 online virusscanners, and they claim to fully protect user’s privacy. The cost for the user is one dollar per one file scanned.
“We can admire this kind of commercialism, but we are not here to congratulate them”, according to analyst Aleks Gostev. And the site needs some form of success now, because various av-vendors sued AvCheck for violation of terms.
