My OS W7 x64, avast! version 17.2, default browser IE 11.
In Manage Add-ons the avast is enabled, however the icon doesn’t appear, either the websites rating icon in searches.
What gives and the advised correction?

I don’t use IE11, so I can’t speak from personal experience. I don’t know if IE11 is now supported by the AOS, a major reason for this is I believe the Smart Screen (not sure if that is the correct name) function in IE11.
Is the AOS even listed in the IE11 add-ons/extensions.
It is not.
Thanks Bob, I felt sure I had read in the forums that IE11 is no longer supported.
