Only 6 providers running

I have chosen to have ALL providers running but the icon shows only 6. If I look at Top Provider there are 7; but in Pause Provider only 6.

What is happening?

Thanks

qim

If you’re running the Home (Free) version, that’s normal.

You don’t have MS Outlook (not express) installed so avast knows that and the Outlook/Exchange provider isn’t enabled, so that should be the one that isn’t running.

I also am having this same problem–only shows that 6 providers are running. I use the free home edition and have version 4.8. However, I do use Outlook. When I go to the Provider screen and go the the Outlook one, it says “Provider is waiting for subsystem to start” and doens’ look like its activate (screen is sort of gray).
I’m not very computer savvy and just work with the basics. Does that mean that my incoming and outgoing email is not scanned for viruses?

I just joined the forums today and checked my recent post about only 6 providers running. I have an addtional question–When I registered, I clicked the box to hide my email address, but there it is! I went into profile to update it and clicked the box again, but it won’t fix it. Help! How to I hide it?

It is “hidden” to all except the Moderators and You.

Well that is comforting. But why is there a little envelope in the foruma to click on to reach my private email? Am I the only one seeing that as well??

See the post above.

Thanks, I understand now. Sorry so slow on the uptake. Do you happen to know the answer to my earlier question about the 6 providers running? It’s up a few posts. I just want to make sure that my email is protected. I use Verizon Fios for internet, but use Outlook for my email. I’ve had a couple Trojans that snuck in recently and just want to make sure that I have set everything up correctly. Thanks for any help.

You are the only one that can see it, I can see mine, but you can’t, see image.

As to you providers issue, what would help us is, which one ‘isn’t’ running then perhaps we can try to offer a suggestion or two.

I use the free home edition and have version 4.8. When I go to the Provider screen and go to the Outlook one, it says “Provider is waiting for subsystem to start” and doesn’t’ look like its active (screen is sort of gray). Is that what you needed?

The sub system it is waiting for is MS Outlook (not express) when it starts it will no longer be waiting. If the Outlook/Exchange provider is greyed out then it isn’t active, but then you shouldn’t be getting any “Provider is waiting for subsystem to start” message.

So what version of MS Outlook are you using and is it running when you see this message ?

On the window you are looking at if there is a Details… >> button click it that will expand to show the 7 providers, see image.

Does the Outlook/Exchange provider look grey like the image ?
If so it isn’t running.

I opened and minimized my Outloook Window and now I have 7 providers running. I checked the provider box and it is not gray now and is not waiting for anything. I never noticed that before so thank you so much for helping me to understand how that works. So if I don’t have the Outlook opened, the provider is waiting for it–I get it. Sounds like it is okay now. Thank you so much for you help!

No problem, glad I could help.

Hi David…

So that’s the background you see when you’re reading from us. ;D :stuck_out_tongue:

Best Regards…

I opened and minimized my Outloook Window and now I have 7 providers running.
Unless you use both Outlook and Outlook Express, there really isn't any reason for you to keep the Internet Mail module running. :)

Well it does provide another valuable service when set to High, if you happen to have an undetected or hidden spambot on your system it will detect multiple identical emails in a period of time and this could be your first/only indication of this undetected trojan.

So if Outlook/Exchange is taking care of your normal MS Outlook email traffic the Internet Mail won’t be active unless something tries to send out spam using its own SMTP program (and not MS Outlook). So it wouldn’t be using much in the way of resources.

I have to agree with David as I know this works from dealing with a spambot on a friend’s computer a few years ago. The Internet Mail module alerted her and she called me for help. Unless your computer has a low amount of RAM, you will never know this module is running.
