hi guys, today i just uninstalled my malwarebytes because of problem when updating, so i want to ask you about your opinion. should i use different anti malware or just only avast protecting my comp? i also had update problem with updating SAS, the main problem is my internet connection is rather slow and unfortunately Malwarebyte and SAS have big size update definition, so i can’t use these antimalware
Other than it is a pain in the rear for those on dial-up as it downloads the complete signature database and not just updates.
I have both MBAM and SAS, but because of the size of updates I only update once per week, before I run my weekly scan and for me that is adequate.
MBAM is supposed to be developing incremental update, though when that is likely to come out hasn’t been confirmed.
david, how about bitdefender free edition detection rate? is it good? can i replace MBAM with this?
ardi_sugianto,
Avast! 5 has a built in antimalware, so mbam or SAS isn’t needed.
I have mbam Free & SAS Free for on demand scanning once a month.
Look in my signature for my setup, I don’t have any infections.
I have never used Bitdefender, free or otherwise, but it is an antivirus application and you have to take care not to have two resident AVs installed. Yes older versions of the free bitdefender are meant to be on-demand, but I can’t confirm this as I don’t know the free version number you are considering.
I disagree with not needing MBAM or SAS since avast has built in anti-spyware. What avast doesn’t have built in is anti-spyware scanning of the registry, avast doesn’t scan the registry as part of the regular scans. If during the course of a scan avast detects what it considers spyware, then it will check the registry for associated registry entries related to that file/detection. There are malware exploits of the registry that aren’t specifically related to a file.
OK thanx for all reply, by the way i installed MBAM today and i get latest virus database now :). THANX GOD…
You’re welcome.
