OpenDns blocked?

Hey guys,

I’m using Avast! Premier, and just today, when I tried to go to OpenDns.com, Avast apparently “blocked” something (long string of words) calling it s Url:Mal. I scanned my computer but nothing shows up. I cleared out my cache and history, but the only thing that change was the prior to the blocking Chrome said:

Something like Error Code: ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

and now its says Error Code: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

It was working perfectly fine before. Why the problem now?

Network Shield: blocked access to malicious site http://d295hzzivaok4k.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/opendns/js/lib/jquery.string.min.js ([54.230.35.176]:80) [ C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe ( 6316 ) ]

Found this in my network shield log…Thought it’d might help. This is one of many. But all say cloudfront.net

UPDATE:

Looks like I just cannot open OpenDNS.com itself. Other pages like dashboard.opendns.com and support.opendns.com are fine. The fudge? Is it the work of a malware?

UPDATE:

I’m getting the ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE once more

Also, Avast isn’t blocking any URL:MAL anymore. The page is still not opening…

Same problem, also since today.

I am also seeing this as well.

I’ve sent in a few FP complaints, let’s see how long it takes for them to remove this.

Yeap. Avast! web Shield detecting and blocking OpenDNS main site as HTML:Script-inf.

Interesting staple999,
My blocks happen on .png, .css, etc depending on which element is loaded first from cloudfront. I’m assuming this block is a cloudfront block.

The following steps have been done to work around this block

  1. Submitted it as a false positive when the prompt came up in the software. This is weird because it wants a file sample when really it’s a website visit.
  2. Went to the FP page → http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php → but again, they want a file!
  3. Complained on Facebook and someone responded saying they will escalate it to the labs. I asked for a response… we’ll see what happens.

I have not called the 1-800 line as I have done this in the past.

Caller : Hey, I have a false positive with the following site
Avast: Please clear your browser and restart.
Caller: That is not the issue as it’s a False Positive can you …
Avast: Click.
Caller: ???

I get the sense you get one question with the 1-800 line then they just hang up on you… that’s what they did to me when I asked a follow-up question.

It’s free software so you will get what you pay for

No, they don't want you to submit a file. You must have select the wrong subject there. Choose "report false positive on a website".
I have not called the 1-800 line as I have done this in the past.
That is not avast, but a third party as has been explained many times already on this webboard.

Avast reported via Facebook that this has been de-listed.

Clearing my cache now to check as first indications don’t show it is fixed.

All good now!

I followed a link from another article actually that changed my choices to !include the site
http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?subject=VIRUS-FILE

Didn’t notice the subject= at first which forces the option.

I have not called the 1-800 line as I have done this in the past.

Point to this? It’s still on the Avast site and is the # associated with Avast to call for Avast problems. I don’t care if they outsource or if you’ve talked about it elsewhere or it’s been “explained many times already”. This is me stating my experience and taking the time to explain how I went about bringing up the issue.

I’ve cleared my cache but I’m still getting an error. Avast doesn’t pop up a network shield block (so I can report the website as a false positive).

Avast! already fixed the F/P with vps 140923-0. It is not being detected any more.

Point being is that a few users here have reported this third-party vendor here as unscrupulous and unethical in the way they conduct business; and this, despite the fact that avast! does provide a direct link to them, and continues to do so, despite numerous valid user complaints. I think Eddy was trying to say not to trust them, as well as to not pay the $179.00 user fee, to get the help one needs as a part of that help seems to involve use of a program such as TeamViewer to get direct access into one’s system. Personally, I’d never let that happen. Technician must be physically in front of a system in order to work on it.

Help here is free and does not involve the use of any third-party software to directly access your system(s).

I’ve no issue whatsoever with how you’ve brought up the OpenDNS issue and how you went about it. Good job on that front, as I was not aware of such an issue here, and use OpenDNS myself.

No issue with avast! and OpenDNS website at the moment. Hopefully, this has been resolved for you.
