I’m using Avast! Premier, and just today, when I tried to go to OpenDns.com, Avast apparently “blocked” something (long string of words) calling it s Url:Mal. I scanned my computer but nothing shows up. I cleared out my cache and history, but the only thing that change was the prior to the blocking Chrome said:
Something like Error Code: ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE
and now its says Error Code: ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT
It was working perfectly fine before. Why the problem now?
Interesting staple999,
My blocks happen on .png, .css, etc depending on which element is loaded first from cloudfront. I’m assuming this block is a cloudfront block.
The following steps have been done to work around this block
Submitted it as a false positive when the prompt came up in the software. This is weird because it wants a file sample when really it’s a website visit.
Complained on Facebook and someone responded saying they will escalate it to the labs. I asked for a response… we’ll see what happens.
I have not called the 1-800 line as I have done this in the past.
Caller : Hey, I have a false positive with the following site
Avast: Please clear your browser and restart.
Caller: That is not the issue as it’s a False Positive can you …
Avast: Click.
Caller: ???
I get the sense you get one question with the 1-800 line then they just hang up on you… that’s what they did to me when I asked a follow-up question.
It’s free software so you will get what you pay for
1) Submitted it as a false positive when the prompt came up in the software. This is weird because it wants a file sample when really it's a website visit.
2) Went to the FP page -> http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php -> but again, they want a file!
No, they don't want you to submit a file. You must have select the wrong subject there. Choose "report false positive on a website".
I have not called the 1-800 line as I have done this in the past.
That is not avast, but a third party as has been explained many times already on this webboard.
Didn’t notice the subject= at first which forces the option.

Point to this? It’s still on the Avast site and is the # associated with Avast to call for Avast problems. I don’t care if they outsource or if you’ve talked about it elsewhere or it’s been “explained many times already”. This is me stating my experience and taking the time to explain how I went about bringing up the issue.
Point being is that a few users here have reported this third-party vendor here as unscrupulous and unethical in the way they conduct business; and this, despite the fact that avast! does provide a direct link to them, and continues to do so, despite numerous valid user complaints. I think Eddy was trying to say not to trust them, as well as to not pay the $179.00 user fee, to get the help one needs as a part of that help seems to involve use of a program such as TeamViewer to get direct access into one’s system. Personally, I’d never let that happen. Technician must be physically in front of a system in order to work on it.
Help here is free and does not involve the use of any third-party software to directly access your system(s).
I’ve no issue whatsoever with how you’ve brought up the OpenDNS issue and how you went about it. Good job on that front, as I was not aware of such an issue here, and use OpenDNS myself.
No issue with avast! and OpenDNS website at the moment. Hopefully, this has been resolved for you.
