Opera Browser?

Hi there,

How do you rate/compare Opera 10 vs. IE8 as the default browser…its pros & cons?

Can one save the customized favorites folder of IE8 & re inject if needed?

Regards!

in my point opera is faster, safer and better then IE. opera have more options then IE.

I have just started playing around with it a little, and I quite like it

If you want to try it, see Opera Portable: http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/opera_portable

I like the integrated mail client, works very good with Gmail imap

Thanks for sharing your expert, practical views. Now I shall give it a try & see…who knows it could take IE’s place on my machines as the default browser?

Could you care to reply regarding favorites folder?

Regards!

IE only supports importing from the following:
Firefox, Safari and an .html file. Since you can save your favorites in opera as an html file, you should also be able to import them to IE.

Opera is better at terms of speed, security, low memory consumption, and usability. Like also the widgets.

Problem with Opera is some pics in certain websites appear blurry. That does not happen with older versions of opera(9 versions) and with internet explorer.

Scott, is that what you’re using … the PortableApps.com version of Opera Portable?
Yesterday I tried 3 times to download Opera 10.62 Rev 2 from there at PortableApps.com.
On all 3 attempts, I would encounter an error at around the 300 plus KBytes range of the download. I finally gave up trying to download it there. I went and downloaded OperaUSB over at the source that Opera recommends. That one did work.

I already mentioned this problem over at the PortableApps.com Forums, but have gotten no response yet.

+1

Opera is also my default browser and has been for the past 5 years.

Why dont you give explorer 9 a go, works on vista and 7 and is alot lighter, faster and secure than than 8, they’ve also included a download manager in this version. Download from ( beauty of the web ). It’s still a beta but it’s working great and i haven’t one glitch with it,you can also use the new square adobe flash as it’s optimised for ie9 32 and 64 bit with gpu acceleration.

OPera will rock with version 10.70. Mostly because you can’t properly customize tabs in version 10.6x. But in 10.70, you can. It’s however still in beta so it will take a while. Performance wise it’s already one of the fastest.

Thanks, Opera is associated with Yahoo but not Windows Live?

I just installed it, shall give IE9 a try too…is it compatible with XP Pro?

Regards!

No it wont work on xp. A much better browser than all the other’s imo.

IE9 is a much better browser than all the other’s except for Google Chrome on XP.

IE9, FF4 Beta In Real-World Benchmark

Yep, I have quite a few of them just running from the hard drive

I vaguely remember you are on dial up yes?
Maybe you could try with a download manager?

Yep, I’m on Dial Up.

What I like about Portable Opera is that when you click on that X to shut it down …
BAMM! It shuts down instantaneously.

Actually, to a certain extent, Portable Opera even works better than regular Hard Drive Opera. The only thing that ends up annoying me is that Portable Opera has periodic PAUSES … Mini Lockups if you will. Then again, that’s probably just due to my slow, underpowered computer with Non-Fast USB Ports.

Try it with a Download Manager?
Nah. I gave up on Download Managers during the weekend.
I kicked to the curb all 3 that I tried.

So you mean to imply that Google Chrome is the best or most versatile browser for XP?

Regards!

Since I cannot use IE9 on XP, what are my best options…to use Opera or Google Chrome?

Hoping to hear your expert advice,

Regards!

If you dont mind google collecting you browsing habit’s go chrome for xp and ie9 for vista and 7.

Thanks again for your advice, shall google…hope chrome is compatible with both Yahoo & Windows live…after uninstalling Opera, yahoo messenger does not show any new mails even if present when logged in…may be coz I made it my default browser or could have made some registry changes?

Regards!
