Opera, Gmail & Avast Mail Scanner settings

Hi Guys ! Here’s my problem…I’m using opera mail with gmail and I can’t get avast to scan my mails. I tried a lot of settings and I can’t get it to work…when I retreive/open my emails avast doesn’t show any sign of activity, scanned count is always 0.

So far I tried the following:
-opera (incoming imap port 993 and outgoing smtp 587 both TLS enabled)…mail retrived succesefuly but not scanned;
-opera (same settings no TLS) avast (imap 993 and smtp 587)…mail not retrived.

Can someone point me in the right direction? What am I doing wrong?

I don’t think avast supports secure email connections yet.

That should be a feature in version 5 though.

Hi cipicu86,

At the moment, avast! is unable to scan SSL secured connections, so will be unable to scan gmail.
This will change in the release of version 5.

I am not sure how mail is integrated into opera, so I don’t know how it will work, but there are ways to make it scan using other mail clients - like thunderbird, outlook etc.

[EDIT} Oops, didn’t see scythe944’s post :wink:

It’s ok, yours is more informative than mine anyway! ;D

I’ll give it a try with avast 5 latest beta.

@cipicu86

please read this post : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=47740.0 before doing that. it is not advised to do so.

Yeah, keep in mind that it’s still BETA. Which means things don’t work, and things can (might) break.

If you use your computer on a daily basis, and need the information on it, I wouldn’t suggest running a BETA anti-virus as your protection. It’s possible to cause more harm than good. Avast 5 should be out pretty soon, so I’d just sit tight.
