I am hoping to get some advise from someone familiar with operating systems and drivers.

I have a Dell laptop that came with Vista. I need to do a fresh install of the operating system but I only have an XP disc. I am wondering if the XP will install OK on the laptop…

The only drivers that Dell provides on their website is for Vista. I am wondering if these drivers will likely work with the XP operating system.

I know that it is probably not possible to be definitive on this issue. I am just hoping to get an opinion from someone with more knowledge than I.

With only 3 days left for support of XP why in the world would you go from vista to XP.
I really don’t think you can down grade without doing a complete reinstall.

I need to reinstall the operation system because of a problem with the computer. I am not trying to downgrade. I plan to remove the current Vista and do a clean install of XP. I don’t have a choice because I no longer have the Vista disc. I only have a XP disc. I realize XP is becoming obsolete, but it is all I have.

If you google can I downgrade from Vista to XP you will get all kind of answers but they are all complicated.

I believe all Dells have a recovery partition

Thanks for the information.

I tried the recovery but it did not work. So, I will need to remove the existing operating system, reformat the drive, and do a clean install of XP.
