Optimize the performance of Avast!

Hello guys!

Anyone knows what is a good configuration to Avast, that provides a good balance between protection and good performance…?

I usually set everything that I can to high becuse I dont know if the medium is enough… And my computer gets a little slower…

If I have only webshield, file scan and email scan installed I will be protected?I use very rarely Emule and MSN…They will be protected by the files scan module too?

And about the scan I used to set it to complete with inside scan checked… Thats take a lot of time… :slight_smile:

I have a pentiumIII 1GHZ with 320MB…Shouldnt be so slow the perfomance… AVG scanning ALL files in my computer used to take like 15 minutes… Avast take more than 45 to scan ALL!

I believe that, as Avast let me configure everything, I get excited and set everything to the max protection… and maybe it is what slow me down…:frowning:

Its safe not use the setting in high option?

O use the XP sp2 firewall and doesnt have any other program running (or auto starting) all the time… Just AVAST! (wich I love)

Elminster, I suggest:

  1. WebShield and email provider always on.
  2. Even if you rarely use Emule and MSN, you could let the providers there, enabled, they won’t take resources…
  3. Sensibility to Custom: uncheck open/create/modified files. Viruses will be caught when ‘started’ (run).

Hello,

The net protector provider is that important? Or just protect the same thing that microsoft patch already fixed (The problem with RPC that allow blaster and company to auto execute in windows xp/2000 machines)?

Oh, and about the scan? I think scan inside of archives is cool, but should I use the complete mode or de default is good enough?

Network Shield is a protection against known Internet worms/attacks. It analyses all network traffic and scans it for malicious contents. It can be also taken as a lightweight firewall (or more precisely, an IDS (Intrusion Detection System). Network Shield protects you from internet worms that spread themselves via various security holes in your system. Typicaly these kind of viruses don’t infect files but instead they attack running processes on your PC (either Windows components or some server programs like SQL Server, IIS etc.). These kind of attacks are not easily catched by ordinary antivirus during file or mail scanning. It is not a duplicate work with Standard Shield.

I don’t care about the time… I use screen saver module or run scheduled scannings at night.
If you set the sensibility to a lower level, you should run a full scan with archive option enabled to be sure your HDD is clean.
