It is correct we remove all other antivirus files before we install avast?
Yes
And if you have had other Security Software in the past it is important that you used the Venders Uninstall/Cleanup utility.
Just simply removing via Control Panel often leaves remnants
I thought the removing might be a little complicated, but does the vender utility remove the secret McAfee folder I read about at Oracle?
I don’t know.
I am just an Avast user and have no idea about McAfee as I havn’t used that software for over 15 years.
Edit: By the way, welcome to the forum.
Who at avast knows? Why do I have to keep filling in the verification box. it is not so easy to read many of the letters and I have to keep asking for new ones. Why do you make us do that.
It’s an Anti Spam measure.
Everyone deals with it for the first several posts or so I believe.
Yes it seems to have stopped. And the main question to what about McAfee?
If you require information about McAfee or any McAfee files, you might have better luck at the McAfee forum?
Not interested in Mcafee, don’t use McAfee and only research now is using Avast and if removing that folder is needed for Avast. Found that McAfee information while studying antivirus companies.
I just found it at Mcafee and already discussing even now and they say it is in the registry too but it is not Mcafee doing it. This is much complicated. Maybe I should wait until I get back to my company in Singapore. I think my company uses McAfee but I wanted a new antivirus on this computer I carry with me. Getting too difficult. I use microsoft antivirus right now.
I do not think this is so easy and I will put the url of these I found first was in Oracle at this place https://community.oracle.com/thread/2621308 then I found this https://community.mcafee.com/thread/62039?start=60&tstart=0
So if even the first removing the folder will come back after the next java update and that is the second problem after install avast. or any antivirus. I did not know about the java problem and antivirus.
I checked my systems and none of them have a McAfee folder although they all have the JRE installed.
I recently have updated the JRE on them.
So no, a update of the JRE does not create a McAfee folder.
Just a guess, you installed a old version of JRE and agreed to install McAfee as well.
The solution is rather easy.
- Remove all traces of the JRE.
- Remove all traces of McAfee.
- Install the latest version of the JRE (7.51)
I studied both of the discussions. I did not think that was false information like that log I can read. You think that all is all false information.
