Hi there,

Do you have any other antivirus in your system?
If you disable avast! plugin for Outlook, will it work?
The plugin doesn’t seem to be enabled, although the splash screen does come up. I checked the About for Outlook and I didn’t see anything about Avast! and it doesn’t show up when you click on “Disabled Items.”
Strange.
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
I tried both - no change. I think Avast! did disable the reading pane, so it had some effect on Outlook. Do I need to change the settings manually?
avast does not change Outlook own settings…
What do you mean by reading pane?
Do you have any other antivirus installed? Had in the past?
I had AVG installed, but I uninstalled it and then checked the Registry to make sure there wasn’t anything left of it.
I do have SpamBayes on Outlook.
It could be the problem as AVG has a dedicated Outlook scanner. Is it shown into the Outlook plugins?
Does it check the email received by Outlook?
If so, can you disable and change your account settings to the default and test?
Does avast! Mail service is allowed to connect into your firewall settings?
No, there are no plugins shown there. SpamBayes checks the email and then routes it to a junk email folder if appropriate.
I just disabled SpamBayes and Outlook still crashed. I don’t have a firewall on my compter - there’s one on our router.
Do you have Microsoft MSN Search Toolbar installed?
We have already informed Microsoft about problems with MSN Search Toolbar and avast! and they claim it should be already fixed by latest MS Office update. Updating MS Office does not seem to help on my machine, perhaps they are still trying to distribute their fix. Vlk will certainly know more.
I think that may have been the problem. I removed the MSN Search toolbar and so far there are no crashes.
Hello,
I had the same problem, outlook 2003 crashing. I’ve try to uninstall, reinstall everything [outlook (+ SP2), avast, msn toolbar,…]. I’ve try also to launch outlook in safe mode: outlook.exe /safe and it works.
In my case, outlook crash when i delete something : email, contact, appointment,… or when sending and receiving email. 2 month with the problem, 1 crash per minute… so I was working with outlook in safe mode.
But I finally find the solution: tools, options, other tab, advanced options, and there is the “gestionnaire de compléments” (I don’t know in english, it’s the button above the COM button). I’ve deselected the avast4, and now everything is running fine !!! ;D
Everything is running fine, but you have effectively disabled the avast Outlook plugin.
The problem is caused by a bug in MSN Search Toolbar. It should be fixed soon (MS says).
Thanks
Vlk
How? :-\
I have to go for a medical appointment, must go, I will contact later

Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
I’ve had the same problem as cptigloo_2000 has. Whenever I deleted an email, Outlook crashed and reloaded. I’ve read the support of avast! homepage and tried to ‘deactivate’ the MSN Toolbar. But nothing was to help except to delete the instalation of it.
Well, I asked myself, why using MSN Toolbar, if you want to have a popup-blocker only. So, I tried to install the google one… but instalation crashed with an error message and stopped. ???
I don’t have an idea, but it seems to me, that there’s something about ‘popup blockers’ avast! doesn’t like…
I don’t have any popup blocker anymore, but it seems to me, I will not install one in the near future…? Because this thread is 2 weeks ago, and still not ‘solved’…
Which browser do you use? Some browsers have an internal pop-up killer…
Sorry, I wasn’t in for some days.
I’m using InternetExplorer 6.0.2900 SP2
and I found an internal popup blocker already.
I didn’t knew it…
Anyway, thanks for your question… it brought me to check inside IE.
@Tech
Do you think, there will be a solution for the MSN-Toolbar in the near future?
It’s not that important anymore, but… I got used with it.
have you tried outlook in safe mode…
I mean go to start, run type in outlook /safe, enter this restarts outlook with min resources, now disable the avast plug in… I hope this works…
