Outlook 2003 Email Problem

I have avast 4.6 home addition. I have had problems sending emails with attachments of 1mb or more - outlook 2003 reports a message sending fail error, but the email is delivered multiple times to the recipient - the email remains in the outbox and doesnot move to sent items. After looking at several forums, i disabled the email scanning option of avast and was able to send emails with attachements without a problem - is there a problem with avast and outlook 2003, if so, how can i fix this - any feedback most welcome. Kris.

Try stopping ‘Internet Mail’ resident provider. It is not needed, as Outlook 2003 is protected by the ‘Outlook/Exchange’ provider.

I have outlook 2003 but it’s protected by the mail provider, outlook/exchange is inactive, it says that is waiting…

You are wrong mpec82, the Outlook/Exchange provider takes care of scanning the mail in Outlook, not the Internet mail provider.

Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook: Help > About > Disabled items

The message “The provider is waiting on the subsystem to start” will be shown there until you open MS Outlook.
The plugin will be enabled automatically after that.

Wow, avast is great. The plugin activates only when i open outlook ;D

Thx eddy

The other provider (mail) what scans?

mpec, I suggest you read the manual and make yourself familiar with Avast and the settings/options it is offering teh user. It will explain a lot.

Thanks vojtech - disabled internet mail - seems to have done the job

When i check the mail with outlook 2003 a strange icon appears, it’s an icon of avast or i have a spyware?

It scans Outlook Express and other not exchange related e-mail clients… Outlook Express and MS Outlook are completely different products.

No it’s not a spyware. It’s normal avast! icon when it scans e-mail… if you take a closer look you’ll see that there is and mail anvelope and police rotation light… it means mail is being scanned… and it’s not just with MS Outlook, it’s with any e-mail provider you use and it’s supported by avast! mail scanner.

If i place the mouse on the icon it shows an ip adress, what’s that ip? the pop3?

Yes… IP addresses that you’re connection to get mail
