Outlook 2003 text missing when replying

This thread duplicates an earlier one with the same subject:
outlook 2003 text missing when replying « on: October 09, 2007, 06:46:48 PM »
Attempting to reply to that thread resulted in a recommendation that I open a new one because of its age. So here goes:

I am experiencing exactly this problem. Outlook 2003, MS Word 2003 as the email editor, XP SP3, avast virus definition ver. 11204-1, program version 6.0.1289. When I reply to an email, the header information is included but the original email text is missing. This is happening on all messages that have the following avast banner at the bottom:

avast! Antivirus: Inbound message clean.

Virus Database (VPS): 12/3/2011
Tested on: 12/4/2011 1:07:40 PM
avast! - copyright (c) 1988-2011 AVAST Software.

Some emails that are transferred from another machine (via a common-access Outlook database) and that don’t have the above avast banner (because that machine is not running avast) work properly on reply; i.e., they contain the original email message as they should.
Help, pleases. This is annoying. DaveD

Try first to update avast to newest version 6.0.1367…
Then if you still have problems report back here.

edit:
if the problem is still you can always try to remove the inbound message clean option.
Just to go under mail shield->expert settings->behavior->unchek INSERT NOTE INTO CLEAN MESSAGE

That worked, giogio. Apparently the latest avast strips earlier clean message notes from the reply, so the message doesn’t get in the way of the reply and the problem goes away. After I entered the original post, I looked around Microsoft support and found that this and problems like this have been around since at least the beginning of Outlook and Word 2003, with never a fix from Microsoft. Thanks for a quick response.
