I am currently using Outlook 2003 and I can’t seem to get Avast to scan my emails.
I have tried running the email Wizard in order for my emails to be scanned by Avast, but it just doesnt seem like it helps. I did everything following the directions but it’s a no go.
Can anyone help me to incorporate Avast into Outlook 2003?
Thank You!

First check the Outlook About box, click Disabled Items and make sure the avast plugin is not in the list.
Thanks

No Avast is not on the list…

Click the avast tray icon and select “Details >>”, then in the list on the left, select “Outlook/Exchange”
What does it say is the provider status?

Provider is waiting for a subsystem to start.

OK, let’s try this: in Outlook, go to Tools → Options, click the Other tab, click Advanced Options, click Add-In Manager and make sure that the box next to “avast! 4” is ticked.

Create a file with the .REG extension and put the following in it:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions]
"avast! 4"="4.0;c:\\program files\\alwil software\\avast4\\ashOutXt.dll;1;10000111111000"
Then quit Outlook, double click the file and start Outlook again. You should see a splash screen of the avast Outlook plugin and the scanning should start working…

Thanks that did it…
How do I know that it is working though…
For instance, how do I know that it is scanning files?

You can either check the Last Scanned File field for the Outlook/Exchange provider (accessible by double-clicking the avast tray icon) or send yourself the EICAR test file.
It’s a special file that all AVs detect as virus but is really not a virus - it’s just a test file to test that an AV is working.
