Outlook 2007 - Antispam toolbar

I have Avast! Premier - On the Outlook 2007 Window of my PC I have an Avast Antispam toolbar “Spam Not spam Blacklist Whitelist”.

However this Antispam toolbar is missing on the Outlook 2007 Window of my Laptop which has Avast Premier installed with the same settings as my PC.

There is nothing listed to enable this toolbar as there is on the PC.

Has anyone any thoughts on this please? The PC and Laptop both have Windows 2007.

you need to go to OPTIONS / manage COM addins, I think, to turn it on in outlook 2007

ME? I have a different problem.
I don’t want this feature at all. All my spam filtering is done at my mail server - a server I run, with Spam Assassin.
How do i get rid of this toolbar, which appeared in my Office 2003 / outlook when Avast 8 upgrade occurred?

Did you get anywhere with this?

John

No.
Actual support from Avast seems not to exist.

Try Tools, Trust Centre then Add-inns then disable “Avast! Add-in”

Hope this works for you.

Jezza

Thanks Jezza. Which application do you mean for tools > trust centre?

John

Outlook

Can’t seem to see it in Outlook 2003, must be a new feature.

Thanks.

John

You can enable/disable add-ins in the following way;

Outlook 2003 and previous
1.Tools-> Options…-> tab Other-> button Advanced Settings…
2.Press the “Add-In Manager…” or “COM Add-Ins…” button depending on which add-ins you want to enable/disable
3.For some add-ins you’ll need to restart Outlook for changes to take effect.

Hope this helps.

Jezza

No, still struggling here. Found those buttons but nothing resembling Avast add-ins.

Perhaps the support team could advise.

Thanks again Jezza

Found this :-

"How to find and disable Outlook 2003 Add-ins and plugins

Disabling unnecessary plugins is a great way to make your Outlook start faster, run more reliably, take less memory. In Outlook 2003 there are three places to look for installed addins and to disable them.

  1. COM Add-ins

To view and disable COM Add-ins in Outlook 2003, navigate to:
“Tools->Other->Advanced Options->COM Add-ins…” and uncheck the Add-ins you do not need.

  1. Add-in Manager

Navigate to “Tools->Options->Other->Advanced Options->Add-ins Manager…” and uncheck the Add-ins you do not need.

  1. Registry Add-ins

In Outlook 2003, some Add-ins are not shown in the UI. You have to look for them in the registry.
1.Run regedit*.
2.Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ Outlook\Addins”.
3.Look at all subkeys of Addins. Those are Add-ins you have installed. To disable a particular Add-in, set its “LoadBehavior” key to 2.

  • – as always be very careful while performing registry modifications.

Do not forget to restart Outlook after making these changes."

ditsum -
thanks for that, but, Avast support should be able to tell us WHY this is enabled without our permission, and, how to turn it off without hacking around in the registry.

AVAST SUPPORT? PLEASE RESPOND!! I pay for 5 licenses, and I want this turned off!

Hi - I totally agree.

Jezza

Did the regedit, worked ok.

Thanks for all you help Jezza.

John

Delighted to be of help!

Jezza

Small oddity. Worked fine on my XP system but made no difference on Windows 7.

John

This may indicate a compatibility issue between Outlook 2003 and Windows 7 - I might be wrong.

Have you thought that perhaps this might be a good time to upgrade to Outlook 2007? - then you can use the fix suggested in my reply 4. It worked for me - I have Avast! Premier.

I have a feeling that you could be hard pushed to resolve this issue.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Jezza

I went back to 2003 after getting rid of 2010,

John

My XP has reverted to loading this toolbar as a result of updating presumably.

This really is annoying and I can see no reason why this should not be a simple option I can turn off.

Can someone tell me if support actually come to this form or am I wasting my time asking?

If they do not intend to do anything about this, a simple and polite acknowledgement of that is all I am seeking.

Thanks

John
