you need to go to OPTIONS / manage COM addins, I think, to turn it on in outlook 2007
ME? I have a different problem.
I don’t want this feature at all. All my spam filtering is done at my mail server - a server I run, with Spam Assassin.
How do i get rid of this toolbar, which appeared in my Office 2003 / outlook when Avast 8 upgrade occurred?
You can enable/disable add-ins in the following way;
Outlook 2003 and previous
1.Tools-> Options…-> tab Other-> button Advanced Settings…
2.Press the “Add-In Manager…” or “COM Add-Ins…” button depending on which add-ins you want to enable/disable
3.For some add-ins you’ll need to restart Outlook for changes to take effect.
"How to find and disable Outlook 2003 Add-ins and plugins
Disabling unnecessary plugins is a great way to make your Outlook start faster, run more reliably, take less memory. In Outlook 2003 there are three places to look for installed addins and to disable them.
COM Add-ins
To view and disable COM Add-ins in Outlook 2003, navigate to:
“Tools->Other->Advanced Options->COM Add-ins…” and uncheck the Add-ins you do not need.
Add-in Manager
Navigate to “Tools->Options->Other->Advanced Options->Add-ins Manager…” and uncheck the Add-ins you do not need.
Registry Add-ins
In Outlook 2003, some Add-ins are not shown in the UI. You have to look for them in the registry.
1.Run regedit*.
2.Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\ Outlook\Addins”.
3.Look at all subkeys of Addins. Those are Add-ins you have installed. To disable a particular Add-in, set its “LoadBehavior” key to 2.
– as always be very careful while performing registry modifications.
Do not forget to restart Outlook after making these changes."
ditsum -
thanks for that, but, Avast support should be able to tell us WHY this is enabled without our permission, and, how to turn it off without hacking around in the registry.
AVAST SUPPORT? PLEASE RESPOND!! I pay for 5 licenses, and I want this turned off!
This may indicate a compatibility issue between Outlook 2003 and Windows 7 - I might be wrong.
Have you thought that perhaps this might be a good time to upgrade to Outlook 2007? - then you can use the fix suggested in my reply 4. It worked for me - I have Avast! Premier.
I have a feeling that you could be hard pushed to resolve this issue.
