Outlook 2007 avast add-in problem after updating to version 7.0.1466....

Dear friends,

I have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed on my laptop. Yesterday i updated my free avast to version 7.0.1466, hoping that the outlook 2007 add-in issue would be resolved. Unfortunately the issue still persists and whenever i start outlook i get an error “Outlook experienced a serious problem with avast add-in”. The dialog box offers me to disable the add-in or keep it turned on. I choose to keep it on however, the system keeps working fine and avast scans email as it should.

I had the problem that you are talking about. However, since updating to the latest version .1466, I no longer have this problem. I am also running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I updated by going to Control Panel, Programs and Features, and clicked on uninstall Avast. I was then given a choice to either remove or update. I chose to update.

It worked. Now I don’t have any problems, at least none that I have discovered since the update.

I did the same on another computer running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit with the same results. No Problems.

I tried to update avast from control panel, but still no luck. Any other possible fix for this issue?

Please, try to use aswClear from http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and make a clean installation.
This should solve your problem.

Have already tried the uninstall utility but that didn’t help.

ok,
check in outlook addin’s manager if you have enabled only “avast! addin” addin.
There is a possibility that there still remains addin called “avast! antispam” causes these problems.

petr

Antispam is not there. I am using the free version and i believe antispam add-in is not installed in the free version although, surprisingly i have seen it a couple of months back in some previous version, i guess it was third last version. I have never used the paid version.

Can you make next steps?

  1. enable avast debug logging (open avast, click on settings, tab maintenance, check checkbox “enable debug logging”)
  2. start outlook (keep loading addin) and then stop it
  3. go to avast log directory (usually “C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log”)
  4. post here file from log dir called asOutExt32.log (or asOutExt64.log if you are using 64 bit outlook)

thanks,
petr

I have Win XP Home SP3 and Outlook 2003. At some point the Avast add-in stopped showing the splash screen and it didn’t show in the Add-Ins. However, after the 7.0.1466 update today, the splash now shows, but still no Add-In shows in Outlook.

Add-in is not shown in add-in manager of outlook 2k3 (it’s feature of this outlook), but if splash screen appears, add-in is loaded.

Strange, log looks fine.
I would need to know little more info.
You have two accounts in outlook. Which type they are? POP, IMAP, Exchange?
Is it the first selected item (selected automatically after start) email? Is this email special somehow?

thanks

I am having the same issue

Petr_matrix i am not able to remember the dir that i have installed the Avast, its probably the D: . What if i am not 64 bit outlook? Cant find it
Hope u reply
Thanks

I have just one POP3 account. Which email are you referring to? couldn’t understand…

One more point, i have recently migrated my mail files to this new laptop and have setup up outlook on this laptop. I just copied my inbox.pst and archive.pst form an old machine to this new machine and then just opened these files in outlook and made inbox.pst as my default mail file. My inbox.pst and archive.pst reside on d drive now and i am not using the default path in outlook for mail files. I don’t know if that can have any impact on avast add-in procedures. Also, i have removed the default mail file automatically created on first use in outlook since i didn’t need it.

Must have been thinking of when I had AVG when it was there for that. Strange how splash is now appearing whereas recently (last couple months maybe) it hadn’t. Obviously a non-issue so won’t worry. Thanks anyway.

Hi Petr,

Why does the log show this error? This is exactly where the error message box appears when i start outlook.

2012-08-28 00:54.09 : ERROR [3672] Spam init failed (0x643)

If you are running 32 bit outlook, log file will be called asOutExt32.log.
But even if you have avast installed on another disk, log should be here “C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\log” (it is a system dir, you must enable showing of hidden and system dirs in windows)

I will try this scenario later. It could be a cause of the problem.

This error means, that part responsible for spam scanning is not installed. In free version it is ok
