Outlook 2007 beta 2 breakage

Using Avast! Home, latest version on Windows XP SP2 (and all updates)… upgraded to Office 2007 public beta 2.

On starting Outlook 2007, Outlook froze when loading the Avast plugin. I killed Outlook and restarted it - it complained about the Avast! plugin, so I disabled it. Outlook 2007 then continued as normal.

I know, it’s beta software… but I think Alwil would want to know that the latest build of Avast! has problems with it :slight_smile:

I suggest a forum serach for outlook 2007 and see what it brings. Previously there were problems with outlook 2003 which also related to having the MS Desktop Search tool installed, once that was uninstalled no issue with Outlook 2003 and avast.

Do you happen to have the MS Desktop Search tool installed ?

I guess we will have to wait for confirmation that ‘Vermyndax’ has MS Desktop Search tool installed before we can say for sure.

Outlook beta 2 seems to expect installation of MS Desktop Search. Did install initially and had the same problem as Vermyndax (yes, I remember the issues with Outlook 2003 and MS Desktop Search so assumed the same here). Uninstalled but continue to have slow running probs, poor rendering of non-plain text messages. One error message eventually led to MS advice it was a problem with Adobe Acrobat - have since replaced with Reader (don’t need Acrobat on this computer). Slight improvement. Tried switching off Avast temporarily and Outlook performance seemed to improve slightly in speed (still somewhat sluggish) but not much else. So it’s possible there is some issue between Avast and Outlook 2007 beta. Not entirely convinced though - will keep fiddling and post anything useful I discover…

Hmm, we’re testing Outlook 2007 beta with avast quite extensively here, and didn’t really find any problems (except on Vista - which should be solved by the upcoming update).

Vik, you may be right. Am using betas of Office 2007 (not including MS Desktop Search but including the new ‘instant search’ in Outlook) and IE7 on my desktop (installed 48 hours ago) and after inital issues reported above, all seems to have settled down and is stable. Outlook is a a little on the sluggish side but that’s probably a function of the new search function - nothing to do with Avast.
