Outlook 2007 "crashes" and requires new setup after Avast scan

Hi everybody,

I have switched from AVG and have been using Avast for a few weeks/months now. I really like the program with the exception of what happens to Outlook after/while performing a thorough scan using Avast. When I try accessing Outlook 2007, I am greeted with the message contained in the attached file. When going ahead with the setup process without actually adding any new email accounts, etc. it appears that certain emails are missing and all the tasks are “messed up” (previously completed tasks show as incomplete, newer tasks are missing)… This is the second time it happened to me and it is rather frustrating and scary…

Update, while Avast is still scanning my system as I am typing this posting, I tried accessing Outlook 2007 again and it worked. This time no setup screen appeared and it took me to my Personal Folders/Inbox where everything appeared in the previous fashion. No emails missing, all tasks and calendar entries are correct, etc. While I am happy about having gained back access to Outlook and not having lost anything, it still makes me wonder what exactly is going on here. I hope that this might be useful information for the Avast team to further improve this otherwise excellent product. Does anybody have an idea what exactly is going on here?

Thank you very much!

Stefan

Can you check which plugins are shown into:
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.

There are no items in the “disabled” section

Which are enabled?

These are enabled… (see attachment). Let me know if you cannot read it and I will try to get a better picture.

Seems ok…
I’m not the best guy to help you with email problems. Maybe any of the programmers (vojtech) or other users (Alanrf).

hi soriold,
like Tech wrote you have to look under ms outlook → extras —> trust center → add-ins —> but then open “exchange clienterweiterung” (dont know the English expression for .-) ) ---> see my pictures there must be an entry "avast!4" for the outlook plug-in! if you cant see this add-in you have to enable it opening avast! on access control panell by right clicking on the blue ball in the systray and starting Outlook/Exchange provider.
hope this helps.

Yes, I do have Avast4 installed as one of the Exchange Client Extensions.
