OUtlook 2007 crashes w/ Avast

I’m running OUtlook / Office 2007 on XP SP3, and the latest Avast. When I open Outlook w/ Avast running, it shows the Avast plugin splash screen and opens normally (tho w/ a lot of hard disk activity), but when I click on the Inbox it crashes out, again and again. But when I disable all on-access scanners (disabling mail alone isn’t enough) I’m fine.

Anyone else have this? Suggestions?

Best,
Tom

I find, not surprisingly, that it’s the Outlook/Exchange Provider that’s causing the problem. Fine w/ the rest of the Providers, but if I run that one, Outlook 2007 stops responding and soon crashes.

I’d be very grateful for suggestions. I find it hard to believe I’m the only one having this difficulty, esp. since my computer (Lenovo ThinkPad T61) is brand new and has few bells and whistles running in the background.

Best,
Tom

I’m having the same problem, but I don’t really know why. I’m running in Vista though, and it happens in both the Home Premium which is on my laptop and the Ultimate which is on my desktop. I started using Avast because it was free and was one of the few programs that I could use with my XP Professional x64 operating system, but I’d like to have something to protect me when receiving emails.

If you can’t use the Outlook/Exchange provider, e.g. you are continually getting the error from Outlook 2007, you could always terminate the Outlook/Exchange provider, remove the avast plug-in from within MS Outlook and use the Internet Mail provider.

Whilst this doesn’t offer the same flexibility or the ability to deal with secure email traffic, it does provide protection.

I wish I know how to troubleshoot or log the Outlook provider.
I had intermittent problems with earlier 4.8 version.
Now it’s working on Vista without troubles.

tbmueller and foreverlazy, do you have the corresponding dump files? I mean, when Outlook crashes, the system generates a dump file that can be used to analyze the problem. It would be useful to upload this dump to our ftp server for further analysis.

Thanks
Vlk

Upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (please, note that you won’t have READ access to the ftp server, just write - so you won’t even be able to see what you’ve just uploaded).

Sorry, can anyone tell me where this dump file is stored by Outlook 2007?

I am having a problem with outlook 2007 and the avast plugin too but my situation is a little different. I am the admin on a pc running xp, sp3 and avast 4.8-1229. On the admin account - no problems.

But my wife uses this PC without admin privileges and she eventually got a message from outlook that the avast plugin was causing problems - with an option to disable it - which she did.

Any suggestions would be appreciated…

Which was your previous antivirus? How did you uninstall it?
Does the error message contain more info? Can you post a screenshot of it?
