Outlook 2007 problems after 2-15 update

I use Outlook 2007 on windows XP Professional. Everything worked fine until the automatic update on 2-15. After starting up the computer today Outlook will not start and says that there is a problem with the Avast add-in and wants to disable it. i can’t download my new mail without first disabling the add in because Outlook freezes.

I am having the same problem.

Is there any new updates on this issue?

Make sure the avast plugin is not disabled into MS Outlook:

Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2002 > Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.

Also, did you use any antivirus in the past in this computer?

You must not understand.

We had Office 2007 installed and Avast - with no problems.
However after a recent update - Outlook 2007 would not open - it just hung.
You had to kill Outlook via task manager.

Then next time you open Outlook it says “There was a serious problem…” and the plug-in Avast was the cause… “Do you want to disable the plug-in?” If you say NO it just hangs Outlook again, if you say YES it will open - but no Email Avast Scanner runs.

If you need a screen shot please let me know.

And?

Nope only virus scanner ever on this PC since load was Avast.

Just another clue… Don’t know about the original person who posted…
But Outlook is in Exchange mode, not POP3 mode…
If that matters.

I’m far from being an expert on mail problems/troubleshooting.
We need some words from the programmers. Sorry.

Using Avast Pro with Outlook 2007. The last few days have seen Outlook hanging Windows as it appear to wait for Avast’s email provider to finish scanning incoming emails. Does happen all the time, but it does appear to happen about once per day. Wouldn’t mind so much if we didn’t have to kill Windows by pulling the plug on it! Never good when Windows doesn’t get the chance to shutdown properly… only a matter of time before something really bad happens to Windows.

I’ve also calls from customers using Avast Pro with unbootable systems. Interestingly both use mirrored RAID. I’ve got to go today and see what is going on with both systems, but I fear something like Avast could be the route cause!!!

I am having exactly the same problem. OUtlook has gradually got slower to start up since upgrading Avast. Now it takes 5 minutes or more before I kill it and disable Avast on Outlook starting up next time.

Is there a fix for this yet?

Incidentally, for some reason today avast couldn’t update either.

I don’t know if they are even looking at this tread. :-\

I’ve basically resolved the issue - I’ve stopped using Avast.
