Outlook 2010, BT Smart Hub and Avast Free Antivirus

Hi folks -

Just taken delivery of new BT smart hub and wired up yesterday. Working fine for internet but some email issues. Can’t now seem to use Outlook as before. When I’m trying to send/receive I’m getting an error message 0x800CCC1A - “your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified.”

Got in touch with BT - guy disabled Avast for 10 minutes and lo and behold I could get my emails again.

Obviously I don’t want to be without antivirus but I need to be able to access the mail. Any suggestions for help with this?

Follow the steps for Microsoft Outlook given in the link below to fix the issue:

Hi pmckeown1,

could you please share your outlook server settings (POP/IMAP and SMTP)?

Thanks in advance,
HK

Hi HK -

Sorry, I’m a bit slow at this stuff but hopefully this is what you need -

POP3 account -
Incoming mail server - outlook.office365.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP) - smtp.office365.com

If that’s not what you need, please tell me where I need to look.

Thanks

Paul

Hello,

i think HK means the ports, see here: https://btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18515/~/what-are-the-server-settings-for-office-365%3F/c/5167/

Thanks TerraX -

That was a helpful article. I pootled about in settings and most things seemed ok, but under ‘More Settings’ I clicked ‘use same settings as my incoming mail server’ rather than ‘log on using…’ and that seems to have sorted it. Can’t pretend I know why, but glad al the same.

Thanks for the help everyone.

You’re welcome.
