Outlook, ad-in install order

I installed Avast today. When I open up Outlook, everything is fine. When I hit send & receive, the program quits and asks if I’d like to report the error to Microsoft.

So I go into Avast and terminate both internet mail and Outlook Exchange. I then restart the system to ensure everything sticks, check the settings and then try Outlook again. Same problem.

So I look in Outlook Ad-in manager and Avast4 is still loaded with a check mark next to it. Now isn’t that strange. You’d think Avast would disable/remove the ad-in when I terminated the providers!

So I uncheck this, restart Outlook and everything is fine. I’m not protected though…

Technical Notes:
Windows XP Pro SP2, fully updated
Outlook 2002, SP2, fully updated
Other Ad-ins: Exchange Extensions property pages (no idea what this is for)
Com Ad-ins: Outlook Backup Adin, QBCM Outlook Ad-in

So I go in and turn off everything except Avast4 in the Outlook Ad-ins and then turn on the Outlook provider in Avast and start Outlook. No problems on send & receive. I then turn on all the other ad-ins with the same result on send & receive.

I can only include there was some form of conflict between Avast and another ad-in. Turning them all off, turning on only Avast4 and then turning them all on (with Outlooks restarts inbetween) seems to have fixed the problem. If not, I’ll report back here with more info.

For what it’s worth,

Kelly

Scratch that, it doesn’t work when I remove the other ad-ins.

So what we have here is a situation where when the Avast4 ad-in is turned on in Outlook, the program shuts down on send & receive.

That’s just ducky!

Any thoughts?

Which are your ‘other’ add-ins in Outlook, besides avast of course?
As far I know, when you disable the Outlook plugin into avast settings, it just does not scan the emails in Outlook but into Outlook settings you must turn it off by yourself. Maybe I’m wrong…

I listed the other ad-ins in my first email. Here they are again:

Other Ad-ins: Exchange Extensions property pages (no idea what this is for)
Com Ad-ins: Outlook Backup Adin, QBCM Outlook Ad-in

Turning them off has no effect – the Avast ad-in still crashes Outlook on send & receive.

Sorry… :-[

Did you use any other antivirus before avast?
If you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Change/Remove.
Then choose Change function and remove the Outlook/Exchange plugin.
Boot.
Install the plugin again, will it help?
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
