Outlook detection stopped working

Avast 4.1 is no longer detecting infected emails. My settings have not changed but I installed XP SP2 recently after which it was still working.

Could someone send me an infected email to martik@telus.net to test?

Martik,

Having one of us send you an infected email IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!

It would be more advisable for you to download and use the Eicar Test virus.

If you right click on the A ball and open up the OnAccess Protection module…
Do you see the Outlook module running?

What OS do you use?
To which Outlook are you referring: Express or Exhange?

Let me know.

Windows XP Outlook express, the outlook provider is NOT running. It says ‘The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start’ even after I terminate it and re-start it.

martik,

Firstly, you are looking at the MS Outlook Exhange module which is not the same as Outlook Express.
OE is protected by the Internet Mail module.
Look at the Internet Mail module to see if it is running.
If it is, then go into the Custom tab and see if you have Scan inbound under Pop3; Scan outboud under Smtp and Scan inbound for Imap.

If they are ok, then…
Lets try a simple Avast Repair.
Go to Control Panel…Add/Remove and find where Avast is listed.
Click on the Add/Remove button and a “Repair” option shows. Cllick on it and let it repair the Avast files.

This should take care of the problem.

Scan was checked in all 3 cases so I ran the repair. I’ll let you know if it worked when I get another infected email.

Thanks!

Well the repair did not work so I uninstalled and did a fresh install. Now it’s ok.

Martik,

Sometimes, reinstalling is the only solution, but I wanted to try the repair first.

Glad things are back to normal.

Take Care,
Techie
