Hope someone can help me, with a small problem. I’m currently running W2K Pro with Avast! Home 4.8.1282.
and i’ve noticed that all the Processes are running, except for Outlook/Exchange which is saying it’s waiting for a subsystem to start?
Hope someone can help, coz i think i haven’t got any Email protection
I like OE6 ;D I have tried thunderbird several times in various versions and it hasn’t lasted more than an hour on any trial.
It is able to import my email accounts and addressbook form OE6 it is also able to import my emails.
But it screws my email folder structure up completely, it is about 85% right but requires a lot of work to correct. I then try to set where tbird should store the email folders (makes backing up easier) and it creates the new location but fails to move the existing structure that I spent time correcting into that location.
So from that point it is history once again and guess what all that takes about 1 hour and the reason why it never seems to last beyond 1 hour on my system. I have 113 folders in all so whatever I use has to be able to import that structure and allow me to say where they should be stored.
When and if you open MS Outlook, the plugin will start immediately after that. Don’t worry.
I’ve used OE then Thunderbird then Windows Mail then Outlook (full)
Like Tech I have Outlook (2003), Windows Live Mail, OE6 and Thunderbird - cos email is something I know a bit about.
I can understand David’s impatience with the importing capabilities of Thunderbird. However I have to guess - no, I am certain - that David never tried to migrate from fully structured Thunderbird to OE. Very rarely can you migrate from one fully structured email client to another with great success. I made the effort with Thunderbird and it functions with my many years of email, complex folder structure etc etc. I do not claim it is better than OE, Outlook or Windows Live Mail. It is just my choice and I prefer it (that’s why I made the effort). Other folks make different choices and I respect them and it very much depends on your needs and circumstances.
You’re right I have never tried migrating a fully structured thunderbird to OE, though I’m sure it wouldn’t be perfect. As I said in my post it got it about 85% right and I was OK with putting it to rights.
What got up my nose was having been allowed to change where the folders were stored it just created the default inbox, outbox, deleted items, etc. totally ignoring the 113 folders in the original location rather than just move them. I just can’t see the logic in that at all and that is why I never stuck with it to find out how competent/flexible an email client that I believe it is.
One day perhaps they will do that, soon I hope, as I have no desire to move/update to windows live mail or whatever the latest incarnation is called this week and see how well that copes with importing/converting OE6 my folder structure ;D
