I’m a bit of a luddite and am new to Avast; running version 4.8-1169. The On-Access Scanner Outlook/Exchange says the provider is waiting for a substystem to start. I am running Vista . What does this mean and what should I do?
If you don’t use Microsoft Outlook everything is OK. 
The plugin only starts if you start Outlook (not Outlook Express!)…
If Microsoft Outlook is running and the plugin still is waiting for a subsystem to start there could be a problem…

myself using MS Outlook 2007, and having the same problem. gettithe provider is waiting for a substystem to start.ng the message ‘’ is any body help to sort out this problem.

which OS are you using?
can you try to open your MS Outlook and go to: Extras → ‘third entry from the bottom’ → choose “Ad-Ins” in the left column → choose “Exchange-Client-adon” in the choose-box in the bottom of the window → 'click the button right from the choose-box" → can you see a entry which is named like “Avast! 4”?
(the names of the buttons are very difficult to translate, so i just described where they are…
