Downloaded avast version 4.6 Home Edition. Can’t manage to get Outlook Express loaded into the Installed providers section. Followed the Mail Protection Wizard instructions as directed without success. Appreciate any help offered. Thanks, Jim.

With Win98 SE you should have:
pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1
username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
Does it help?
JimmieC, there’s no specific provider for Outlook Express in avast. If you’re talking about the “Outlook/Exchange” provider, it’s ONLY loaded when full Outlook (from MS Office) is running, not Outlook Express. Outlook Express is handled by the Internet Mail provider, with the aid of the Mail Protection Wizard (if on Win98).
Tech & Vlk, thanks for your help.
pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1 [Did this]
username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com [Did this]
[I am lost here]:
“smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com”
Apologize for being so technically inept. Any further help gratefully accepted. Thanks again, Jim.
JimmieC, check:
username = mail.server.coml#user
or
mail.server.com#user@server.com
Not simultaneously…
Better will be:
- Uninstall avast. Boot.
- Configure your email program and test it.
- Install avast. Boot.
- Run Mail Protection Wizard with your email program closed.
- Open and test your email program.
Tech and Vlk;
Thank you! It appears you have corrected my problem. Appreciate your efforts. Jim,
