Outlook Express Account Server Information

I use Outlook Express as my email client, and I just want to confirm I have the correct settings for the servers re the scanning etc when using Avast.

I have entered stars for security reasons.

Incoming Mail pop3 127.0.0.1
Outgoing Mail smtp 127.0.0.1

Account Name ***#pop3..co.uk

Does that look right as it differs from what is on those settings for the Microsoft Outlook settings, but that will be because Microsoft Outlook uses a plugin perhaps.

The question I would put to you is. Is your email working as this in win98 looks correct ?

avast has to modify the settings in win98 system with the mail protection wizard so that your email is scanned. This isn’t required with

Microsoft Outlook is different because there is a provider/plug-in (Outlook/Exchange) specifically for MS Outlook and that works from within the email program so it doesn’t have to change any settings. Unlike Outlook Express which uses the Internet Mail provider which is outside the emai program the account settings have to be changed to allow avast to scan it.

I suggest you take a look at the avast help file, Setting up the Mail Protection section, which will give you a better idea.

My Email is working, I was just curious again.

Where is that link I once saw that used flash to illustrate the settings for O.E & M.O

It killed the cat you know ;D

Surprising how helpful the avast help file is.

Don’t know, I don’t normally view flash to darn slow on dial-up, not even sure what your abbreviations are.

Just one thing,

It said in the connection settings that I do remember entering awhile back, no proxy for localhost, 127.0.0.1

I take it that’s correct also.

By the way I found the flash video.

Edit,

O.E & M.O = Outlook Express & Microsoft Outlook.

DavidR,

Incase you ever get broadband, here is the link to that flash.

http://www.avast.com/files/tutorials/ws_ffproxy.htm

I have seen that one before and although flash it isn’t as media heavy as a typical flash presentation, there are others for the other browsers.

For IE - dialup users - Tutorial - Web Shield Proxy Set-up for IE (Dial-up)
