outlook express doesn't work

I just installed avast 4.7 home edition. I have outlook express with my work email forwarded there. I am receiving the following message when I try to open outlook express:

The server responded with an error. Account: ‘mail.defeatdiabetes.org’, Server: ‘mail.defeatdiabetes.org’, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ‘-ERR concurrent connections limit in avast exceeded(pass:20, processes:emproxy.exe[19], msimn.exe[1]), there is a collision with another program’, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Do you know what I should do?

Thank you,
Lisa

You need to configure avast to use the local proxy emproxy.exe that you’re using.
What is this program (proxy) for?

Maybe you can edit avast4.ini, find the section [MailScanner], add (or edit) the line IgnoreProcess.

[MailScanner]
IgnoreProcess=emproxy.exe

It will include this redirector proxy of scannings.

You can also set your Outlook Express to use another port (the emproxy.exe port) and into avast Internet Mail provider settings add this port on the ‘Redirect’ page of settings, unchecking the ‘Ignore local communication’.
This will scan your email.

You don’t want to ignore emproxy.exe you want remove it, emproxy.exe is a process associated with McAfee Email Proxy from McAfee, Inc…

So you appear to have McAfee AV installed or remnants of it after an uninstall ?

Its usual location is C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\McAfee\EmProxy\emproxy.exe, don’t attempt to simply delete it you need to uninstall the McAfee AV.

Oopss… sorry, thanks David, you’re right.

You may want to use the McAfee Product removal Tool which can be found here.
Hope that helps. :slight_smile:
