outlook express - false attached

Hi,

I have changed e-mail provider (italian provider named aruba).
On the computers (windows XP) on which is installed Avast, almost all incoming messages (using outlook express) are displayed in the messages list with an attached file, even if there is not actually an attached file.

On the computers (windows XP) on which I have not installed Avast, using also Outlook Express, the problem does not happen.

Does anybody know about this problem and its possible solutions?

Thanks for your answers.

Probably there is a problem with the clean notes added to clean messages after scanning.
The notes should be added to the message body but, in your case, are attached.
Do you use any spam filter? Any other antivirus in the past in these computers?

I have no problem with Outlook Express and the insertion of clean notes.

However, since you have just changed ISP, the email delivery may well be different from your old ISP.

Does the new ISP use SSL/TLS (secure encrypted) email ?
If so, a) avast doesn’t scan this email, b) the whole purpose of SSL is to keep prying eyes out (including AVs) and this would stop the insertion of clean notes.

Is the Internet Mail provider even scanning your email ?
Check the email headers to see if they are stamped with X-antivirus, avast, etc. or look at the Internet Mail provider, detailed view Last scanned: and Scanned count, these should be constantly updates as email is scanned.

What email ports does your ISP have you use to send SMTP and receive POP3 email ?
