Outlook Express inbox blocked

Hi- Since installing Avast I can only access my Outlook Express inbox once, then if I try again I get this message:

“The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘pop.eastlink.ca’, Server: ‘pop.eastlink.ca’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E”

If I restart my computer , I can access the inbox one time again.
How can i fix this problem?

Check with your ISP and find out which port they are using.
Sounds like it’s something other than 25 ???

You are talking of accessing the inbox and this has nothing to do with accessing the inbox but retrieving emails.

Some google hits on this indicate it might be a firewall issue and this is possible.

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashMaiSv.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and check for email again, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
