outlook express password problem

Hi everyone - I can no longer get my e-mails from outlook express (version 6.0) and I use XP. I continually get the following message “There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: ‘POP.virgin.net’, Server: ‘POP.virgin.net’, Protocol: POP3, Server Response: ‘-ERR Mailbox Temporarily Unavailable - Please try again later’, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92”.
I have tried setting up a new identity and reconfiguring the “Mail” settings as advised by the “Virgin Support Team” but it still doesn’t work (their support is not very good) . My account name and password are correct. Can anyone help me? Also I should add I’m not very technical so any help will have to be “idiot proof” and very easy to follow. Hope someone can help - Julia.

Hello Julia…

If you’re absolutely sure you’ve configured OE properly there is one other thing in the error message that jumps out at me and that’s “Mailbox Temporarily Unavailable”… There could be a problem with your ISP’s mail server…

I used to get that on occasion when the validation server was down (e.g. it can’t check the user name and password). So that might account for the ERR Mailbox Temporarily Unavailable, error.

You could also check your account settings:
The most common issue is that you haven’t checked the My server needs authentication, etc., see image.
OE, Tools, Accounts, (select the appropriate account), Properties, Server tab, check the My server needs authentication and click the Settings button to enter your user name and password details, etc.
