Outlook Express

When I use Outlook Express to send an E-Mail, if the file is largeish I get a server is not responding message after 60 sec do you want to wait or continue…
I was just wondering if I have over looked something…
Any idea’s people…
Superb product free and support…
Thank You Very Much For Your Hard Work…

How large does the file have to be?
What is your Internet connection?

Does the send operation eventually succeed if you let OE wait for additional time?

Thanks
Vlk

1.5 - 2 meg… Sometimes smaller…
600k Broadband Cable…
Yes it always completes if you keep pressing wait.
But my upload speed is only 128k, so sometimes you have to sit there for ages pressing wait…
Thanks for the reply…

I recommend to set the timeout in Outlook Express to its maximum possible value (menu Tools->Accounts->Properties->Advanced). The actual timeout is managed by avast and can be configured in On-Access Scanner dialog->Internet Mail->Customize->Advanced.

Thank You Very Much…

Are you using a hotmail account or a pop3 account?
2 MB attachement is almost overkill for a default hotmail-account.

You mention having a upload speed off 128 kb/sec,…
My upload speed is only 16 kb with DSL,…and no troubles regarding the speed,of sending emails with attachement.

I have in my outlook: 4 pop3 accounts and 3 hotmail accounts.
Maybe your attachements are simply too heavy to handle?

Thanks…
But No trouble since changing the settings as recommended by vojtech…

How do I get to the timeout part of avast free? I maxed my OE timeouts.

Check this.

I’ve got the same problem, with a few differences.

The pop up is an OE pop up which says that your SMTP server has not responded in 60 seconds. You have the option to wait or stop. In my case, it doesn’t matter if I click wait or just let it sit there. The email is still sent. Connection status monitor shows data being sent and received. It would seem that avast!'s proxy server is not sending a signal back to me that OE recognizes as a response from the SMTP server.

The pop up comes ever minute on the dot. If I wait for say, 45 seconds to click wait, it will appear 15 seconds later.

I’m sure that the avast! server is in contact with the SMTP server, as I never get a avast timeout error.

I’m on slow dial up, and sending a large, 1.5-2 mb email, takes about 8-12 min… Setting the OE time out to max may not be enough to keep the pop up from appearring, unless avast! does send a signal some time during the course of sending the email. But I don’t think so, as I stated above it will show up every minute, so there couldn’t have been a signal at any time.

This is not really a problem, but rather an annoyance.

I will try setting the OE timer and see what happens.

Ok, I set it 5 min (300 sec), pop up appeared right on schedule. I stand by my theory.

BTW, why would setting the time out in avast! have an effect on an OE pop up?

Oops, forgot. Win 98se, IE 5.5, OE 5
