when using avast version4.6 home edition it doesn’t let me send any email I am not sure which version I think the latest version. But yet when I disable or remove avast version4.6 my email works great why???
Probably because your firewall is blocking ashMaiSv.exe.

I am using the current version of outlook express. I am using windows xp service pack 2. My firewall is the one that comes with windows xp service pack2.
I also have the same problem. I can recieve and read email but not send.
I have tried to turn off everything to fix this but it still will not let me send.
How can you change the mail protection wizard??
It does not even show the mail protection wizard under avast menu or settings.
If I can’t fix this I will have to delete avast.

For Windows 98\Me, the Mail Protection Wizard is on Start Menu > avast! antivirus.
You can run it directly from avast folder: ashPopWz.exe

When you send an email does your server require authentication?
If so have you ticked the box?
If the above doesn’t resolve the issue, just for test purposes temporarily disable the windows firewall and try to send an email to yourself.

On the previous occasion, were you sending an email with an attachment?
If so extending OE’s server timeout delay will help.

While avast scans the outbound email OE thinks the server is idle and displays the timeout message.
when I turned my firewall off avast let me send me email again. Should I turn my firewall back on??? And no I wasn’t sending an email with an attachment.
Sure, your firewall should be on. Just you need to allow the following programs to connect:
ashServ.exe (avast! antivirus service)

ashUpdSv.exe (avast! Update Service)
avast.setup (avast! Update executable)

Well since your using Windows Firewall:
Go to Control Panel>Click on Securtiy Center>click on the text “Windows Firewall”>click on the “exception” tab> click on “add program”> Since it’s not on the list, your gonna have to browse your PC for these:
ashWebSv
aswUpdSv
ashMaiSv
avast.setup
ashServ
the only one I can’t add is avast.setup I added all the rest.
avast.setup is a temporary file created while updating avast.
With 3rd party firewalls you should be able to manually start an update and answer yes to the connection.
Windows Firewall, even with the ‘program asks for connection’ option enabled, could allow it without asking…
But, I imagine you can update avast without problem right now, can’t you?

I am also using freedom is a a firewall also.
Could ashMaiSv.exe connect the Internet?
Outlook error 0x800CCC0F is generally related to antivirus and firewall.
You can Google for 0x800CCC0F and you’ll find a lot of troubleshooting.
the problem was in freedom firewall. So I delted it. I have windows firewall and that is the only one I need.
