outlook express

this is what freedom tech support said to do "It looks like you are running programs that could cause interaction conflicts with Freedom. These programs are:

Avast Anti-Virus

It is generally not recommended to run more than one Internet/security programs on the same PC at any given time, as this leads to resource conflicts between the programs. This may critically interfere with Freedom’s activity, as you have experienced.

You may remove these programs through the Windows Add/Remove Programs feature.

Also, please uninstall any unused or unnecessary programs from your computer to avoid any other potential software conflicts." Should I do as the say???

If that is what Freedom Tech Support said, you are well rid of them.

avast! isn’t an internet/security security program, Windows doesn’t recommend two firewalls and suggests you disable the XP one when you get a third party firewall; avast! doesn’t recommend two resident AVs on your system (as do most other AV companies). This is correct because they are doing the same task and can cause conflict, but avast! isn’t a firewall.

You do however, need outbound protection to stop any virus that may penetrate your defences phoning home with your personal details (accounts, usernames, passwords, etc.)

If Freedom is blocking ashMaiSv.exe and there is a way to allow access for this process in Freedom, then there would be no conflict, so you may be able to keep Freedom.

Zone Alarm free version as Bob said should fit the bill and has a relatively friendly User Interface for the novice firewall user.

Easy to say: my program is essential, antivirus not…
Nowadays, with Windows XP internal firewall, antivirus are far more necessary than a firewall.
Better, avast has two ‘firewall features’: NetShield and WebShield, making it even more essential.
Anyway, I don’t think avast should ‘conflict’ with a firewall by definition…

well I did as bob said to do I downloaded and installed zone alarm and now everything is working great thank you.

Glad to hear that kohls.  It’s always nice to hear that someone has solved their problem.

Well done, you deserve it 8)
Congratulations
