Since downloading Avast! I am unable to send emails with photo attachments or Media player files. Advises me that SMT server has not responded in 60secs and must wait. HELP! Is there somewhere on Avast that may be disallowing these to be sent by Outlook Express?

Welcome to the forum and avast!
You’ll need to changed the server timeouts in the advanced properties in your e-mail accounts settings.
Mine is set to 5 min even though 3 min. is probably more than enough.
Also fix the timeout settings in avast! by double clicking on the a in the system tray and then follow the picture:
