Outlook module vs. Internet mail

Hi all,

I’m very happy with Avast, have been running it for over a year with no major problems.

One question though! I am sorry if this comes up often, I searched teh forum and could not find it in detail.

I’m running Outlook 2003.

The Outlook module is activating for this and successufully scanning mail.

I need the Internet Mial module for my news feeds to other programs and the odd dive into Outlook Express.

So I accept that both modules could need to be on my system.

What I can’t understand is why both of them scan my Outlook email. Surely this is not required and is an overhead I could do without? I don’t see any way of stopping it, other than to remove Outlook module and rely entirely in Internet Mail.

What’s the score?

Many thanks!

Ian.

Mail should not be scanned by both modules, where do you see it is ?

Hi, thanks 4 reply.

I have just worked out the cause of this.

I use Spampal to fetch my POP mail!!

It is as simple as that. Internet Mail module works with Spampal and then the Outlook module catches the mail as it passes to Outlook.

Bingo!

Very sorry to have wasted your time!!!

Welcome to the forums, iano39.

No, it was not a waste of time. You learnt something and so will someone else.

Please come back often, learn more, and maybe help others.

Well I felt pretty stupid as normally I am the one giving IT answers (not here perhaps, but on other forums, newsgroups, at work and at home). Bit of a schoolboy error there! I moved from Outlook Express to Outlook and carried on with Spampal. I should have noticed how slow mail was - everything was being scanned twice. I’ve gone back to Spambayes for Outlook, so everything is kept in the one Avast module again. I still have IM Module loaded for news. Sometimes I just use Mailwasher and avoid the traffic altogether, LOL. 400+ spams a week now… MAN!!!

Best wishes.
