Outlook profile

Outlook 2003 / Avast 4.6

I have a current PST and several archive PST files.

Avast created a Outlook Profile (avastpst2995) that only references one of those archive PST files, and did not reference the current PST at all.

What action should I take:

  • edit this profile to add the other PST files?
  • delete the profile in hopes it will be recreated?
  • something else?

Edited to note that I am running a full, thorough scan. Besides the above Avast profile, there is the original profile that Outlook created. Observing the files that the scan is processing, I am fairly certain that Avast is processing is the original Outlook profile. However, when I open Outlook, it is using the Avast profile which only references one old archive PST.

Is this Avast profile actually needed?

Weird… never heard about that…

To change the reference file of Outlook, check:
File > Database Management

Interesting… I hate when stuff happens that nobody has ever heard of…

So would I do any damage by simply deleting the avast profile that was created?

ok, one further followup.

When I saw that profile, it was when there was a complete scan running. Once the scan was done, the profile no longer appeared.

Is it possible that this profile is created “on the fly” while scanning for bad guys, and goes away after completion?

I think you’ll need to stop scanning as you’ve discovered… Anyway, I think you won’t lose your profile doing that.

Wow, maybe you find the answer.
Seems interesting that avast need to have a profile to scan the PST files…
