Outlook very slow when opening emails

Hello, I recently installed Avast for Home and am very happy with the product, I installed the Outlook addin as well as my Outlook is configured to use pop3 to pull e-mails from my provider. All was working well, until I decided to pull my e-mails. Since then my e-mails open very slow taking 40 seconds and Outlook runs very slowly, it is fine downloading the e-mail.

My Pc is a Windows XP Pro system, running a 3700+Mhz AMD processor, I have many gigabytes of disk space and 3Gb or RAM.

I have no other antivirus software installed as I re-installed the OS from scratch, the only thing I have is Windows defender. All other aspects of Avast work without issue and there are no error messages.

I have also disabled Windows firewall and am using the Avast version.

Please advise as this is the only thing that is causing me frustration from what is a brilliant product.

To all,

I have now found that the problem is not with Avast but with Outlook itself, I de-installed Avast and the performance did not improve - trawling thru the internet there are a lot of posts about Outlook performance and importing my messages into Outlook express worked and the performance was hughely improved. Have de-installed Outlook and will be re-installing.
