Outlook Won't Download HTML Pictures

I’m not sure if it’s a setting in Avast!, but since I installed it, no matter what I do, I can’t see any HTML pictures in my emails. Such as emails from computer stores with pictures of the merchandise, or book covers from book store emails. I really want to see them. I “downloaded pictures” and I still can’t see any pictures – just a frame with a red x in the left corner. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Julia

If you right click the red x frames, won’t the download pictures work?
Strange, mine are working…

Thank you for your reply. I did that, but the images still don’t download. I just get the red x.

Does this occur with any email or just particular ones (from the same source)?

This is occurring with all emails that have pictures in the body of the email that need to be downloaded. I can’t see any pictures in any such emails.

Are you using MS outlook or Outlook Express ?

If OE there are security restrictions to stop downloading images, Tools, Options, Security tab, see Image.

I don’t know if there is a similar option in MS Outlook if that is what you are using.

I am using Outlook (Office 2007). I don’t see a picture like that under Options. I did a Repair Office using the installation CD, but the problem persists. I don’t really know what to try next. Should I uninstall Avast! and try reinstalling it?

Thank you for taking the time to try to help me.

You won’t see a picture like that because it is for Outlook Express which was stated.

You would have to find whatever the equivalent Security section is in MS Outlook, I can’t help you with that I don’t use MS Outlook.

Repairing office won’t change this if it is a security setting within MS Outlook, you have to find the security settings in MS Outlook, try its help file. Again re-installing avast won’t change internal security settings for MS Outlook.

Maybe this will help:

Click the pictures to enlarge

Again, Microsoft could have done it with more flexibility…
I wish to automatic show images from trusted email sources, but Outlook can’t be configurated this way… It’s 8 or 80, or better, 0 or 100…

Hi, and thank you for suggesting the Trust Center. Actually, I already had this unchecked. I am quite stumped, as it was working fine until just recently. All of a sudden, something changed somewhere, and I don’t know what it was. Thanks for trying to help!

Julia

Try checking it and saving the changes, exit and come back in and uncheck it, saving the changes and exit again. Other than that I’m at a lose as to what else to suggest, of course you could try a google search based on the title of this topic, http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Outlook+Won’t+Download+HTML+Pictures, this brings lots of hits.

This message forum is old, but I am now having the same problem with Avast 8 update and Outlook 2007. I have checked the Trust Center in Outlook and it indicates that pictures should download automatically. No pictures are downloaded and I can’t do it manually. Please help!

If it is exactly the same (unrelated to avast) then the previous solution doesn’t work, try that search link (refine the search by including 2007 in the search) and see if that brings anything new that helps.
