Outpost Firewall 2008 wants to disable Avast TDI Shield.

When installing Outpost Pro Firewall 2008, it wants to disable Avast TDI Shield for compatibility. What is the function of TDI Shield? Can this incompatbility be fixed amongst Avast and Outpost programmers? Is it safe to disable TDI Shield? If I don’t disable the the TDI Shield, I get NO internet connection.


“To avoid conflicts during product operation, please set the “Start” value in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\aswTdi key to 4 and restart your computer. This will disable Avast! TDI Shield.”

Don’t allow it, it is not a firewall but the Network Shield, which if your firewall is doing its job the Network Shield will not have any business, it monitors common worm and virus entry points.

If you terminate the avast Web Shield can you connect ?

If so, it is more likely that the inability to connect is Outpost blocking the Web Shield, ashWebSv.exe, check the Options, Application (don’t know if this is the same in OP 2008) and see if the file is blocked, if so allow it and you should be back in business.
